Anyiso was established to ensure that African and Ethnic minority women, their children, and young people from all backgrounds are given the support and services needed to enable them to live better and safer lives free from sexual abuse, rape, forced marriages, FGM (female genital mutilation) and discrimination.

Wisdom Maduabuchi, at Anyiso, shares their reflection on the Pilotlight Impact Day programme.

What motivated you to apply for Pilotlight Impact Day?

As a young and growing charity, we strongly believed that the Pilotlight Impact Day programme would provide valuable support to our team and the organisation. The success of our application brought us great excitement, and even though we didn't quite know what the outcome would be, we were confident that the project would help us drive strategic changes within Anyiso.

How did the project go?

Initially, it was slightly challenging for the Pilotlighters to understand Anyiso and what we do, as we offer a variety of activities to different service users among different age groups. Once the Pilotlighters gained insight into what we do and how we were operating, they took genuine interest in Anyiso. The teams of business professionals worked tirelessly to help us articulate a plan on how to tackle some of the challenges we were facing and create a strategic plan on how to implement them and shape the future of the organisation going forward.

Results

Since completing the programme, we have set out a two-year strategic plan to help us pivot to the next chapter for Anyiso, acknowledging all the points that were outlined by the Pilotlighters. Our website is currently undergoing an extensive revamp, which will make it much easier for us to tell our story and showcase the amazing work that takes place at Anyiso daily. We have also opted for other streams to secure more funding for the organisation as advised during the programme. We are also working on changing our purpose to make it more inclusive for everyone in the community.

What are your top takeaways for other organisations looking to apply to the programme?

Pilotlight Impact Day provides new and small charities with a wealth of knowledge, valuable insights, tailored recommendations, and structured plans which will help them grow. The genuine interest, patience, attention to detail and hospitality provided by the Pilotlighters makes it a smooth process and an unforgettable experience.

Everyone at Anyiso would like to give a huge thanks to the Pilotlight team, the day spent with them has been extremely impactful and helpful for us as we pivot into the next chapter of Anyiso’s journey!
