Family Gateway is an award-winning north-east based charity that aims to improve life chances for children in disadvantaged communities through an approach based on the Barefoot Professional model. It employs local people who have lived experience of the same or similar issues as its beneficiaries as Family Entrepreneurs; they provide whole family support to vulnerable ‘hard to engage’ families with barriers to engaging with services and agencies, developing enterprising solutions to local problems. Their ultimate aim is to ensure that the family environment is safe, secure, loving and healthy, empowering all members of the family, particularly children, to achieve the best possible outcomes.
