The Prison Optician Trust is dedicated to reducing reoffending by training prisoners in optical skills and helping them find paid work in the optics industry. In its first four years, it helped over 40 prisoners secure employment. In 2016-2019 it trained over 60 prisoners and 45 of them secured paid work with opticians. It is now the largest provider of optometry services into prisons in England and Wales.
