Your Voice Counts was established in 1991 by a small group of family carers to help people with learning disabilities in Gateshead to speak up. It did this by delivering advocacy services, something it became expert at and now delivers to other vulnerable groups. Many of the people it works with needs its help to improve their circumstances, so it has developed services that can do this. It aims to build resilience for its beneficiaries by supporting them to be connected to their communities, to have choice and control in their lives and to have a voice about what matters to them. People whose lived experience reflects that of its beneficiaries ('Experts By Experience') work with the charity to achieve this aim, and to create solutions that lead to fairer, more inclusive communities.
