In a world of inequalities, the impact that we can have may be limited by our background or identity. However, it’s only when we include everyone that we can amplify the good we can do in the world.
At Pilotlight, we want to create a world that’s fairer and more sustainable because charities have the skills that they need to tackle disadvantage. That means bringing as many different voices as possible to the table to share their expertise and insights.
We are looking for driven, ambitious individuals from all walks of life who are seeking leadership development to become Pilotlighters on our Ignite Initiative.
As part of our commitment to widen participation to our programmes, and our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Action Plan, for the second year running, this initiative offers a package leadership development support, worth approximately £2,000, for free to successful applicants. It's open to anyone who’s experienced barriers to their professional development, whether that be due to their age, disability, gender, race, religion or beliefs, sex, sexual orientation and/or socio-economic background.
Lola Askarova, 2021 Ignite Initiative winner, describes how her confidence grew as a leader after becoming a Pilotlighter:
Pilotlight helped me realise that I already have sufficient experience and skills to contribute meaningfully to the board/ trustees/ senior management work if I choose to do so in the future. I’ve flexed and strengthened my leadership skills and have been challenged to grow as a senior leader.
Noha Al Afifi, 2021 Ignite Initiative winner, saw first-hand how valuable and impactful bringing diverse voices together is:
What has surprised me most was that Pilotlighters came from different backgrounds and areas of expertise, which meant that each person felt differently about an idea or approach at times. This sometimes led to having slightly uncomfortable conversations, which was fine because ultimately, there was consensus on the way forward.
The Ignite Initiative is fundamentally important to Pilotlight as it directly enables what we do best – bringing people together so we can do more for the world.
Breanne O’Brien, Business Development Manager and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Champion, commented:
Pilotlight has a history of bringing people from different sectors and experiences together for mutual benefit. Our Ignite Initiative enables us to add even more voices to the table. Bringing people from underrepresented backgrounds into our community and creating space for them to use their insights to help charities as well.
Deadline for applications is 8 September 2022.
