In July, Andrea Sinclair was named as Angel Investor of the Year by the UK Business Angels Association. As one of the organisations that has benefited from her creative entrepreneurialism, we are delighted to send our congratulations.

Andrea has been a longstanding Pilotlighter, one of our community of business experts providing support and challenge to charity leaders across the UK. She also served as a trustee of Pilotlight through to December 2019 and over her term, we in turn were able to support 345 small and medium sized charities working around disadvantage and social need.

Andrea has commented that

I'm delighted to receive this award in recognition for the work I've done since starting my journey as an angel 12 years ago. It's an honour to follow in the footsteps of Deepali Nangia, Angel Investor of the Year 2021, who’s such a driving force in the female investing and enterprise space and who’s been such a part of my own angel journey since we first met eight years ago. My special thank yous go to all the amazing entrepreneurs, building both commercial and social enterprises, who I've been able to support in different ways.

And it has been a good month for recognition too of a second extraordinary leader we have had the pleasure of working with. Kate Heaps is CEO of Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice who has been shortlisted in the Third Sector Awards as Charity Leader of the year.

She is seen as a great organisation leader, able to motivate her team, build a culture of care and keep the financial plates spinning. At a time when only one in four hospices ended the last year in a strong financial position, she has worked wonders to secure the financial viability of the charity.

Of course, I am biased, as the charity is the local hospice for me. But I would also say that we have seen Kate’s real superpower through one of our projects to support Bexley Partners, a consortium of local charities. This is her openness to collaboration.

At a time when resources are scare and needs are manifold, the spirit of generosity of Andrea and Kate are examples that will be of compelling value for all concerned to improve the world around us.
